I was looking for the tool that out of the box will let me generate/draw some nice UML diagrams. I didn’t have a lot of time for this, so there was no room for heavy customization of the tool output or the tool templates and so on. I decided to quickly compare ArgoUML, Jude Share, Sun’s NetBeans and IBM Rational Software Architect and pick one for the task.

But I have never tried the UML tools on the Open Source world, that’s what I set out to do. Having worked on Commercial tools like Together for Websphere Studio Application Developer and Sparx Enterprise Architect over the years I know what kind of diagrams they produce, and the ease of working with them. The task is I need to quickly understand the code base, get a high level architecture view, generate/draw some diagrams out of it and put it on the project wiki to discuss the product architecture with the team.

I’m looking at this new Open Source product.
